Time to master the mental

I've been a Professional Massage therapist for just about ten years now, Ive worked in so many different environments from health clubs to Chiro offices and like I tell my students, I can truly say that I've seen it all when it comes to Massage. but I've always felt that my business had a weak point, and that recognition is key to building a strong and profitable business.
Like all therapists, I got into this profession not to make a lot of money, but to help people. and that's all fine and dandy, but sooner or later you have to realize that someone is making money off of your efforts and energy.
There came a time when I realized that I had always been good at the physical, but had never attempted to master the mental. and by that I mean I have always been the workhorse it's my makeup it's who I am, I love the brute physical aspect of every job I've ever held. something about getting in the mix and doing the job has always appealed to me. but now I realize that it's time to accentuate the mental side and learn how to build my business without doing all the grunt work. For many years now I've followed the careers of two fellow therapists here in San Jose, the owners of Roman Paradigm Therapy, Doreen Jattan and Robert Vignoli, two amazing leaders in the field and masters at marketing massage.
Roberts slogan was how to make massage a hands off business. that always puzzled me, how do you do massage with no hands ( ok so I'm not the brightest bulb)
building your business so your business can sustain you, marketing, promoting, building a name for yourself
Wow actually selling yourself!!! this was an area I hadn't really focused on, my practice had grown so well working with Chiropractors and physical therapists, I'm working 40 hours a week and never really thought of growing my own business, i guess you just get so busy that you forget to focus on whats really important, and that this is your business.
So i begin the trek o f conquering the mental, by that I mean marketing, networking, advertising, and the dreaded computer

The ones that make me think

My first entry is based on a question I have about a particular client of mine, Question: is residual pain from your workout a good thing or bad? ok we've all had really great workouts where we feel like we can go on forever in the gym, nothing hurts and we're in such good form we should be teaching others how we do it so well. but the 2 or 3 days that follow that work out are filled with a burning and ache which I've come to enjoy and actually look forward to. telling me that boy I done good, too bad I can't reach my head to comb my hair.
I know that in a few days that pain will pass until my next visit to the gym if I'm lucky. which brings me to patient #1 Male 33 years old, 5' 9" tall 180ish lbs, lean muscular build, avid triathlete and in my opinion in fantastic shape, client 1 trains 6x a week run, bike, swim, and is in a constant state of tension and sorness, which he believes is a bad thing creating limited range of motion and just an all around feeling of ache.
after our 1 hour sessions, he feels instant relief lasting for 3 to 4 days, but nothing holding longer than that.
my belief, revel in the ache, you've reached a point where your time working out is reflected in how you feel, and you should take pride in a job well done?
Could it be that patient #1 is more than just you average athlete and should consider himself a contender, or even semi pro?

What type of Massage do you prefer

The Massage shoe of choice

It goes without saying, I am on my feet alot my average work schedule is usually 7 hours straight through. so you can guess my feet do take a beating. but honestly my feet are completely comfortable all the time, and I have to contribute it to the shoes. my two most important criteria for shoes, quiet and comfort and with these shoes they really do the trick, thank you Asics!!!!
